Community Involvement
Young Clement Rivers continually seeks to give back to the community in which it thrives, encouraging professionals and staff to practice community service and to donate their time through pro bono hours to organizations committed to making a difference.
Pro Bono Work
Young Clement Rivers has a long tradition of donating legal skills and other services to its community. Throughout its history, the firm has reinforced a sense of community purpose in its staff, recognizing that lawyers have a professional responsibility to provide free legal services to disadvantaged people. Involvement in pro bono service has been as plentiful and diverse as the lawyers who commit their time, legal skills and energy. During the last five years, the firm has contributed more than 6,000 hours through a wide variety of pro bono activities, affording hundreds of individuals free legal services.
Community Service
Young Clement Rivers staff are active in the community as evidenced by their involvement in more than 30 community organizations, including the following:
- American Cancer Society
- Ashley Hall School
- CareAlliance Nursing Scholarship Fund
- Carolina Children’s Charity
- Charleston Southern University
- Charleston Symphony Orchestra
- Children’s Hospital Fund
- Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry
- Friends of the Courthouse
- Historic Charleston Foundation
- John Ancrum SPCA
- Medical University of South Carolina
- Sea Island Habitat for Humanity
- South Carolina Aquarium
- The Community Foundation
- The Preservation Society
The firm’s attorneys are charged with promoting -- and being directly involved with -- community service, and each attorney, from associate to senior partner, must identify, participate in and report on community service efforts.
Young Clement Rivers has also established two endowed funds to further its commitment to the community. The Young Clement Rivers, LLP Endowment Fund at The Community Foundation Serving Coastal South Carolina will provide grants to local organizations to offer programming and projects throughout the community. In addition, Young Clement Rivers LLP Endowed Scholarship fund at Charleston Southern University will provide scholarships to students based upon financial need.
In addition to these funds, Young Clement Rivers is a major contributor to the South Carolina Aquarium and contributes annually to the CareAlliance Nursing Scholarship.
